Type: Full Time

Location: Gaithersburg, MD

miRecule Inc. is seeking a highly-motivated, thoughtful, and experienced researcher to join our growing R&D team. As the lead scientist on our FSHD program, this individual will be responsible for establishing and executing preclinical development plans. The position will blend strategic R&D leadership with direct hands-on work at the bench, with a focus on optimizing in vitro discovery assays, and directing mechanism of action and pharmacology studies in animals to identify and validate our lead candidate for MC-DX4. This individual will also work closely with our VP of Research to gain exposure to CMC, TOX, and pharmacology studies, as well as with our drug synthesis partners to manufacture and scale up MC-DX4 candidates in preparation for a Pre-IND or IND meeting. We anticipate success in this role will lead to management of a small team of direct reports in the FSHD program

Why miRecule?

miRecule, Inc. is a rapidly growing biotechnology start-up focused on the development of RNA therapeutics to treat a variety of diseases. miRecule’s DREAmiR genomics-based discovery platform is designed to create best-in-class RNA therapies, identifying critical RNA targets for drug development in specific subsets of patients that would benefit from treatment. We then create proprietary chemically-modified RNA therapeutics with improved pharmacology, while utilizing antibodies for targeted delivery to the diseased tissue.

miRecule is developing MC-DX4 as a treatment for Facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD), a genetic neuromuscular disease affecting both adults and children, for which there is currently no cure. MC-DX4 will eliminate the disease-driving expression of the DUX4 gene, which causes FSHD in 95% of patients, halting disease progression and vastly improving quality of life.

  • A PhD in biology, pharmaceutical sciences, life science technology or related field.
  • 5 years or more of therapeutic research experience in a biopharma company.
  • Experience in muscular dystrophies, myopathies, neuromuscular or other musculoskeletal disorders is a must.
  • Experience in delivery of RNA therapeutics is preferred.
  • Holds the title of Sr. Scientist or similar.
  • Experience in managing outside vendors and internal team members is preferred.
  • Evidence of scientific acumen in the form of peer reviewed publications and patents
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and execute effectively on pre-determined timelines.
  • Ability to lead and motivate colleagues, and help build a positive and productive company culture.

Our culture

At miRecule, we have strived to cultivate a mission-centered culture, enabling the creation of high quality RNA therapies that can truly change the lives of patients. miRecule employees live the tenets of scientific rigor, teamwork, and mutual respect, allowing us to grow cohesively as a team and help each other to learn and succeed in our pursuit of this important mission. We seek individuals to join our team who resonate with this philosophy both professionally and personally.
